With help from Camp AV participants, Gold Coast Farm distributed 105 pounds of produce to South County Outreach, a local non-profit that runs the largest food pantry in South Orange County. Planted in April, this is the first crop of vegetables harvested at Gold Coast Farm.
Produce included in this harvest include carrots, beets, celery, kale, and collard greens. Farm operators anticipate sharing weekly harvests with South County Outreach, with additional vegetables and fruits in the future.
In addition to assisting Gold Coast Farm with harvesting, campers have also been visiting the farm to help with growing crops and weeding. More information about Camp AV and City of Aliso Viejo recreation programs and classes can be found here.
Gold Coast Farm is located at Aliso Viejo Ranch, and is a partnership between the City of Aliso Viejo and Renewable Farms to educate the community about sustainable farming while contributing food to local food banks.
