Engineering

Aliso Viejo Engineering Division oversees matters relating to City streets, public right-of-ways, City capital projects, utilities, traffic, and private developments. Engineering Division staff coordinate City projects and plans with other local cities and governmental agencies (Orange County Transportation Authority, Caltrans, County of Orange, Moulton Niguel and El Toro Water Districts) to ensure that the City’s concerns and public safety are addressed. The Division is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of all publicly-owned properties, including parks, streets, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, traffic signals; signs, street lights, and storm drain systems. The Division also administers various maintenance contracts to accomplish all field maintenance works.

Traffic Engineering Program

The City’s Traffic Engineering Program goal is to improve the quality of life for Aliso Viejo residents, schools and businesses by maximizing traffic safety and minimizing traffic congestion. The program includes investigation of traffic issues by conducting traffic surveys and studies and recommending solutions to the City Manager and City Council. Engineering staff review and develop City traffic engineering guidelines and standards, processes citizen concerns about the existing circulation system and implements corrective measures when appropriate.

Street Maintenance Program

The Street Maintenance Program is charged with maintaining a pleasant living environment for Aliso Viejo residents; and providing hazard-free, safe roadways for motorists and obstruction-free access for pedestrians. To do so, this program includes street lights, intersection lights and traffic controller inspection and maintenance. The program also includes monitoring the City’s street sweeping, removal of debris from the public right-of-way and repairing streets and sidewalks.
